As of 4th January 2009 it became a legal requirement for the seller or landlord to produce a valid EPC on the completion date of the transaction, failure to do so can lead to penalty charges.

An EPC also allows prospective buyers, tenants, owners, occupiers and purchasers to see information on the energy efficiency and carbon emissions from their buildings so they can consider energy efficiency and fuel costs as part of their investment.
